Falls in the Fall
Day 14 and 15 - In Niagara Falls
18.10.2009 1 °C
On Friday afternoon I just did something crazy and decided that I would go to Niagara Falls over the weekend since I just got freed up on Sat afternoon. So off I went to Chinatown and took a bus to Niagara Falls on the cheapest tour around. The trip would take me about 8 hours on the bus. Quite sian at first i thought, until i started seeing snow along the way! It was such a beautiful sight! Snow in Autumn! And the autumn colors i saw on the trees along the way were simply breathtaking.
I realized that the US has a vast vast vast piece of land, abundant arable land i may add. i don't see how we can be talking about overpopulation in the world. The way i calculate it, the land that they have can accommodate at least another 800mil to a billion more people!
And we pulled into the state of Buffalo, i suddenly saw these tall silver towers emerging from the hill tops. these towers were HUGE! they were like 20-30 stories tall. it was like a scene out of Star Wars or something. They all had three blades on them, and they just filled the landscape. With the futuristic music from the onboard movie playing in the background, i almost thought i arrived in 2100 AD. they turned out to be wind farms, and the "windmills" were harnessing the wind energy. this may very well be the future. tall silver machines dotting the world. a scary thought though...

First stop was Corning Glass Museum. It was an alright tour, nothing much exciting, but was amazed to see a glassmaker live in action.

Next was another 2.5 hour journey to the Niagara Falls, which are actually sitting on the US-Canadian border.
As a child, i have always wanted to visit Niagara Falls. It is one of the 7 wonders of the world, and watching those silly IMAX movies in Science Center stirred the wanderlust even more. Plus i'm a nature kinda person, so everything aligns!
My first glimpse

Look at the sunset!

As you can tell by the snow, this autumn is turning out to be very very cooold. the greenhouse gases are really messing up the climate. the climate change thing that they have been talking for years is REAL i tell you. it's really topsy turvy..
anyway my fingers were all numb after 5 minutes in the open. so i bought myself a pair of gloves from the souvenir store. I have never spent money on souvenir so fast before! cos i reaaaaaally needed to save my hands! i hope they don't drop off from frostbite!
The Rainbow bridge joining the US to Canada!
After dinner we went back to see the Falls. As cold as ever, but i see it in a new light, literally! they lit up the Falls and they were gorgeous!

I made new frens with the three Indian fellas sitting next to me! Oh my, they were such great fun! We did crazy things together in the next 2 days, including showering in the falls!

Just look at the trees, it's like a childhood dream come true! I have always dreamed of walking under maple trees with falling leaves in Autumn!

Isn't that lovely?? Rainbow!

I don't have the photos yet (the Indians are going to send me!) but after this i went on the Cave of the Winds tour, where we walked under one of the smaller falls and touched the waters! and we went under the section of the falls called the Hurricane where we got totally soaked in the Icy water of the falling waves!
Then Maid of the Mist was a boat ride that took us to right under the Horseshoe Falls and we saw the majesty of the mighty Niagara. It was an awesome sight to behold. For a moment you forget all the troubles in the world, and you just enjoy what God has created for all of us. and wonder at the majesty of it all.
